Best Carbonara Ever

Saturday, September 02, 2017

It was just a boring Sunday afternoon when my sister suggested we go to Kucina Italian Restaurant, located at OneKM Mall @ Paya Lebar. I'm up for Italian food any day, so of course I said yes.

The place itself was easy to find, and the nice man there ushered us to our seat, offered the menus and proceeded to tell us about the ongoing promotions. We placed our order soon after and started our wait. For me personally, it was a very painfully long wait, but maybe it just appeared so as I was starving. I needed the food in me asap or my intestinal walls were going to be eroded by my gastric juices.

Our antipasti (appetisers) arrived eventually, and we dug in.

Bruschetta ($6.00) & Polenta Fries ($9.80).

I'm sure you all know what bruschettas are, and if you know me, you'd know that I don't eat vegetables at all so I didn't touch the Bruschetta which contains fresh tomatoes, basil & italian parsley on toasted bread. I, however, loved the Polenta Fries!!! It's polenta (corn semolina flour) cooked with herbs & served with cheese sauce! I loved every single bite! It felt so sinful but I swear it's worth it.

Bisteca ($24.80)
200g black angus ribeye with roasted vegetables & potato crisps served with black pepper sauce

Milanese ($18.00)
Breaded chicken breast served with tomato, red onion, capers, rucola & roasted potato wedges

Porcini Ravioli (~$26) [This was the Chef's Special!!]

As I said, I don't eat vegetables so when my sister ordered this, I was a little sad because I was thinking about my favourite Ravioli Di Salmone at Pastamania and how it has been out of stock for several months. But when this arrived, it smelled so good and when my sister offered me a square of ravioli, I hesitantly took it - I was half excited because yassss ravioli, but I was half scared that I would be disappointed if I find that the mushrooms/porcini were too much for me to eat. I'm very picky with food and I hate mushrooms but the porcini inside were so finely mashed up that I could taste it but not feel a whole fricking mushroom in my mouth, you get me? Anyway, it was so good. My vocabulary is very limited, but trust me when I say that you should run to Kucina right now and try this before they change their "Chef's Special"! It's pricey, yes, but it's worth every cent.

Carbonara ($17.80)
Spaghetti with turkey bacon, parmesan, egg yolk & a touch of cream

It looks yummy but basic af. So I started eating, expecting it'd just be mediocre but I was wrong, yall!! It's the best carbonara ever! It has such a rich, creamy taste but you don't get sick of it, it doesn't get jelak at all. Every mouthful was heavenly and I swear if you don't get your ass to Kucina to try this the next time you're craving pasta, you'll regret it. I want to cry just thinking about it. Maybe I'll order some for dinner hehe
